Throughout the lifecycles of the various foodstuffs produced locally and globally, GS1 has always been there to track and trace each individual phase of food production. Together with Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority, every item of food, from its raw form all the way to the dinner table, is tracked with a GS1 GTIN, guaranteeing food safety and streamlining various phases of the supply chain.
In 2019, GS1 and the NFSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding, signifying GS1’s exclusive coding application to all foodstuffs and materials through the food and supplement supply chain. This mandates every supplier and seller to register their products and services with GS1’s global Data Matrix, and to obtain a GTIN and GLN for each item.
