What Can You Identify with GS1?

GS1 identification keys uniquely track products, locations, assets, and services across the supply chain.

When you join GS1, you’re assigned a Company Prefix to create various GS1 identifiers and barcodes for efficient tracking.

Key Identifiers for Efficient Tracking

GTIN

Identifies traded goods and services at any supply chain stage, automating transactions and item info retrieval.

GLN

Tracks locations, providing key data throughout the supply chain for security and coordination.

SSCC

Identifies logistics unit (case & pallet), managing goods through the supply chain from factory to warehouse.

GS1 Application Identifiers and Attributes

GS1 identifiers, such as GTIN and GLN, serve as primary keys for identification. They also include attributes like lot/batch numbers and expiry dates.

Attributes alone cannot identify items without a GS1 key. A check-digit, calculated from preceding key numbers, ensures accuracy and uniqueness in GS1 keys.
