Agriculture

The food service and agriculture supply chains are at the very core of Egyptian commerce and trade. An aggressively demanding industry with multiple compliance, safety and quality requirements, food and agriculture are a prime focus for GS1 Egypt. This is especially true when it comes to traceability.

While food and agriculture are fundamental and near-continuously growing industries in Egypt, the pressure to efficiently manage the increasing demands for transparency, visibility and robust traceability is rightfully on the rise. The implementation of GS1’s standards and solutions provides an opportunity to review current business practices and identify areas of change that will yield positive improvements and preserve the integrity of the product.

GS1 Traceability

As supply chains for products continue to grow exponentially in both scope and complexity, companies look for more ways to operate on a global scale. The need for accurate and reliable product information is the lifeline of commerce for trade partners, regulators and consumers in an industry driven by supply and demand. GS1 realizes the need for dependable, interoperable standards to efficiently track and trace raw materials, final destinations and key factors about products, allowing it to create its Global Traceability Standard.

The GS1 Global Traceability Standard defines a minimum set of traceability requirements within business processes to achieve full traceability throughout the supply chain. GS1 achieves this by outlining a common framework to build various traceability solutions upon using its global standards, such as barcodes.

This allows GS1 to achieve the following:

  • End-to-end traceability and clear information flow.
  • Sharing traceability information between trade partners if a critical recall were to occur.
  • Form the basis of the GS1 Global Traceability Compliance Criteria for Food.
  • Allow companies to verify the quality and integrity of their existing traceability system with expert help.

GLN – Global Location Number …The Single Source of Information for Locations

What is a Global Location Number (GLN)?

The GLN is the GS1 Identification Key used for any location (physical, operational or legal) that needs to be identified for use in the supply chain.

In today’s world, accurate location information is more important than ever before, especially when multiple account numbers are being utilized by your trading partners. With accurate location information and a proper hierarchy, the GLN Registry™ becomes the “single source of place at the right time and that your contracts and rebates are being executed correctly. The GLN Registry is a subscription-based web solution that provides a comprehensive list of participating companies in the Egypt with their corresponding Global Location Numbers and GLN information. The GLN Registry serves as the single source for location information, enabling subscribers to access up-to-date, reliable location information for Back-House, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and retail to improve the accuracy of their supply chain activities.
